The Sims 4 Spooky Stuff released on 29th September, 2015 and includes a lot of items and decor to spice up your game for Halloween! This stuff pack has many 'spooktacular' objects which made the game even more fun to play. Hope you enjoy my review!
I'm dividing this review into a few groups:
- Introduction
- New objects, decor and social event
- A look at CAS
- A look at Buy/Build mode
- Overall Thoughts
This stuff pack is quite different than the other stuff packs as It is focused entirely on the Halloween theme. There are many costumes added in the game ranging from a pirate costume, ninja, fairy etc. Also, a super llama costume can be unlocked by achieving the gold medal after throwing a Spooky Party. There are two special items - a candy bowl where a hand/ghost pops out and pumpkin carving station. All these objects would've fit in very well with a Seasons EP, especially during Fall. There are also fog emitting tombstones and really cute pumpkins for decor. If you want to create a haunted mansion filled with cobwebs, this is your chance! Moreover, I've been seeing a lot of Halloween themed creations on the Gallery which you can download. On the other hand, It would've been nice to see a real haunted house (not a rabbit hole) where you could see your Sims inside and getting spooked.
There's a lot of costumes and make up added in CAS which are perfect for a Costume or Spooky Party. The Build mode includes new flooring and also wallpapers to fit the theme. I like how the stuff pack turned out this time. The stuff packs for The Sims 4 are usually focused on a particular theme but not on particular holidays and gatherings of the year. I hope they continue to work of Stuff Packs this way because from my perspective, It turned out to be better than Cool Kitchen which was a disappointment. So, let's see what kind of fun and spooktastic stuff are added in the game!
NEW OBJECTS, DECOR AND SOCIAL EVENT
Starting with two of the newest objects we got - the candy bowl and the pumpkin carving station. The candy bowl is just not a regular bowl and when your Sim attempts to pick a candy from it, a ghost/hand pops up from the bowl. Sims who are frightened by this can get a Tense or Happy moodlet. Who knew a tough bear gets scared by everything? As you can see, one is with the ghost and another is where a hand pops out.
Pumpkin Carving
Next is the Pumpkin Carving Station. Well, you can carve a pumpkin with different faces including a cat! There are different colours including orange, pale orange, green and white. Nice to see different colours are included rather than just orange. Carving a pumpkin can improve your Sims' handiness skill and the higher their handiness skill, the better they'll be at pumpkin carving.
You can light the pumpkins and also stomp on them but be careful to turn off the lights before your Sims do as a fire can break out! Well, this pirate isn't so well in dealing with fires!
On a different note, If your Sims are angry It can also affect pumpkin carving and you wouldn't want to miss trying this out!
Changing/Haunted Paintings
Remember the haunted paintings from The Sims 3 Supernatural? Well, they're back and are even creepier than the ones in The Sims 3! You can place them in your Sim's house, wait for a minute and watch them change. If you notice it closely, It can very creepy to watch! It's just like an innocent person turning into a scary creature.
SOCIAL EVENT
A new kind of social event is added with Spooky Stuff- Spooky Party. It's nice to see this party added with the stuff packs because it is the only way to put the costumes into good use. Anyway, throwing a Spooky Party means you can change your Sim's costume (No, they won't randomly change into tutus) By clicking on your Sim, a list of costumes will appear for you to choose including a pizza delivery guy! This made me jealous of my Sims and they don't need to spend so much time buying their costume!
A LOOK AT CAS
With this SP, I like how they concentrated on every aspect of the game ranging from Create-A-Sim to Buy/Build Mode. With Create-A-Sim, you can find different kinds of costumes, face paint, stockings, spooky accessories etc. Starting with children stuff first, did you know that there's a pumpkin hat that change colours If you notice closely? I didn't notice at first but once the gurus mentioned it, I couldn't help but rushed straight into CAS.
It's nice to see how much detail was put into making the costumes. Surely, we won't use them regularly in our game so much but It seems a lot of effort was put into these costumes. For example, let's look at this fairy costume:
Err... I know that face paint and costume don't go well. Although we don't have a colour wheel, It was pleasing to see the costumes in different colours and patterns. As you can see the second picture below, there are also shimmery stockings as well as some other stockings which are a bit torn to fit in with the spooky theme.
There are some costumes I think I won't use regularly such as the costume above. I would use it at a Spooky/Costume Party but not all the time. The accessories, such as the necklaces are pretty nice to use but I'm really terrified of spiders so I'll pass.
There are also ninja and warrior costumes which I would love to use! Hopefully one day we can make really good use of these costumes when we get packs that fits the theme of these two costumes. I would love my Sims to acquire some special power rather than just wearing a costume.
A LOOK AT BUY/BUILD MODE
There are a total of 24 Buy/Build mode objects and like the CAS, the spooky touch is available in these items too. There are some new wallpapers, carpets and some very creative decorations. Moreover, there are also cobwebs for decorations. It's nice to see we got them back from the Now and Then Store set from TS3. The haunted paintings are one of my favourites so far! Here are all the objects:
The three kinds of wallpapers glow a little bit when the room is dark. I think some of them would fit in well in a child's bedroom such as the second and the third one but I hope they'll probably scare them away!
The furniture have a blend of both the spooky and cute touch. I think I won't be using the couch a lot in my game but the pumpkin lighting would probably fit in some social events! Also, I wouldn't mind using the pumpkin with the smiley face. It's too adorable to ignore.
There are also some decorative tombstones but I wish we got graveyards with a patch. In my opinion, that would really fit with Spooky Stuff. Below are some of the decorations and you can even change the colour of the tombstones and the little ghost!
OVERALL REVIEW
From my point of view, the team added more features and stuff than other Stuff Packs such as Cool Kitchen. Cool Kitchen was lacking in the Buy/Build mode part while CAS items were quite impressive and something you would use everyday. Spooky Stuff, on the other hand is entirely focused on the "Halloween" theme. If we look at some features such as the social event, the two new objects (candy bowl and pumpkin carving station) and the new party interactions, a lot objects/features were added in this pack. If they continue to create the Stuff Packs in this way, It would be a success without any doubt. The objects were designed perfectly. However, some of the objects aren't fit for everyday use and would go well with Seasons. If we got graveyards or perhaps a haunted house where we could actually see our Sims, It would've made a good use of the costumes and other decorations. I'm hoping that we get more Stuff Packs like Spooky Stuff during the Christmas season or maybe later in the future. I give Spooky Stuff of 8/10
I hope my review was informative enough! Please let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. Also, If my review helped you make decision whether to buy this or not, don't forget to recommend! Also, happy late Halloween!
